Embroidery
There is a spiritual connection between the tea bag or coffee filter and what I see. Much of my art on this material relates to symbols and cultures. It is interweaving ideas of how we are all connected. The material is delicate and challenging to embroider. Found objects have been incorporated into my art since I was a child. Using something considered trash and making it special also appeals to me as a metaphor for finding beauty within. Art is special and allows us to connect deeper with each other, ourselves and the act of creation. Anything can be a vehicle for creative expression. I enjoy the fluidity of the stains which are the imprint of water. The different types of tea have different colors and dyes. I often place them on a windowsill and let the colors bleed into each other. I use used tea bags and not new ones. I think that they contain residual energy from use that translates into the meaning of what it will become. I believe in the transformative power of art. From nothing it can become an object of reverence and inspiration.
